On Sunday, August 25, 2013 at the Bakehouse Performance Center in Dumfries & Galloway, Scotland, our friend violinist Michael Braudy, who specializes in Indian and Celtic music, accompanied the English actress Chrys Salt in the reading of some of the Hymns of the Rig Veda to an appreciative audience. Katharine gave a series of four "Reflections on the Season of Advent" at the adult forum of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Englewood, NJ during November and December of 2011.
Jean delivered the De La Salle/Founder's Day lecture at
Manhattan College on April 10, 2008. His subject was "Chartres Cathedral: a Look at the
Geometry of the Building, its Orientation, and the
Original Function of the Labyrinth.
Jean and Katharine spoke on contributions of the Benedictines to religious and cultural life at a retreat offered by the Friends of St. Benedict at the Trinity Conference Center, West Cornwall, CT., November 1-4, 2007. Jean's topic was "The Birth of the Gothic" and Katharine's was "Gregorian Chant."
Jean taught a class at the Center for Christian Studies of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, 7 West 55th St., NYC on Tuesday evenings during the month of May 2007. The subject was: "Numbers and Proportions in Sacred Geometry, Architecture and Music: Some Traditional Conceptions and Applications in Medieval Churches (Chartres in the West and Russian churches of the Golden Ring in the East.)"
On March 10 and 11, 2007 Katharine and Jean gave the Abbot Gerald R. Desmond Lectures at St. Martin's Abbey in Lacey, WA. Katharine spoke on "The Origins, Practice, and Interiority of Gregorian Chant" and Jean on "Medieval Christian Architecture: The Cathedral of Chartres."
In 2003 Jean was elected “Eminent Engineer” by the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honorary Society
In 2001 Jean was the Canon Edward N. West lecturer at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, New York. He spoke about the Millennium Sphere project and the associated Labyrinth.
