Syllabus
Week 1 September 3, 1997
Announcements and introductions, description of the course, process, requirements, and expectations:
1. A plan for Governors Island (a model, virtual or physical), a multimedia presentation/exhibition
2. documentation in the form of a web site or notebook, consisting of quotes and original text and imagery (drawing, photo, video, collage, animation etc.)
3. Weekly report on the web and weekly reading and discussion of the class members reports on the web
4. A formal final report
Demo on the web; how to put your homework on your HTML page. Guidelines for forming groups, possible forms for projects. Distribution of list of source materials: bibliography, online sources, relevant exhibitions.
Assignment due September 8:
1. Assigned reading from the bibliography
2. 1 Page response (text, image, video) on readings: focus on connections and
differences between the readings
3. Put your response on your HTML page by saturday and bring it on 3 hard
copies to class
4. Visit sites of your class members in the weekend
Assignment due September 15:
1. Assigned reading from the bibliography; and make a comparison with the film

1. Describe your idea for the proposal. Think about characteristics of the
site, and the function of your project
